The Retrieval Duet by Aly Martinez is a two part series.
TRANSFER (Part 2) is NOW AVAILABLE!

Blurb

One story. Two couples.
I fell in love with a man who didn’t exist.
What started out as romance ended in hell.
His words turned to razor blades.
His kisses converted to fists.
His embrace became my cage.
His body transformed into a weapon, stealing parts of me until ultimately….
I broke.
I hated him.
My sole job in life became to protect our daughter.
I wasn’t sure I’d ever escape the prison he’d skillfully crafted from my fears.
Until the day our savior arrived.
This is the story of how I escaped the man who thought he owned me.
The transfer of my life and my family.

AP new - synopsis.jpg

Our history made things harder.

We were associates out of convenience.
We tolerated each other.
I never saw her that way.
She never saw me that way.
She and I were never meant to be friends.

You’re not supposed to fall for your best friend’s enemy, even if the enemy is YOUR ex-best friend.

This isn’t the story of falling in love with your best friend.
It’s about falling out of hate.

…. “So what’s your story, Lisa? The real story.” Grams shifts her attention to Lisa, honing in on her like a lion does a gazelle.
Even though I’m ecstatic to be out of the hot seat, Lisa hasn’t had a grilling by grams in years, and the woman is like a human lie detector. If Grams hadn’t been pulling so much overtime at the hospital during my senior year, she would have sniffed out Lisa’s Mr. Robinson romance before it even started and set her straight. Lisa’s eyes dart over to me, but if there’s one person I can’t save her from, it’s this one.
“My sort-of boyfriend-slash-boss dumped-slash-fired me and kicked me out of his house,” Lisa answers, picking at a piece of toast.
“That asshole. Do you want Aidan to go kick his ass?” Grams asks angrily, ready to send me to California.
“I already asked, Grams.”
“No, it-it actually was my fault,” Lisa answers quietly.
Grams is quiet for a moment. “What’d you do?”
Lisa looks at me before returning her attention to her toast. “I-I told him that I had slept with another guy.”
My eyes nearly bulge out of my head. She didn’t tell me that.
“It was a lie though,” she adds quickly.
“Why would you do something stupid like that?” Grams asks in a way that only she could. It comes off as hilarious but concerned.
“Because I’m an idiot sometimes.” Lisa laughs and looks down at her picked over toast, apparently embarrassed.
Grams sighs, shaking her head. “What am I going to do with you two? So what are you going to do to get him back?” Grams asks in the no-nonsense tone only she could make loveable.
Lisa chuckles. “I don’t think that’s happening.”
“Hey, one thing I want you two to remember is that you never give up on love. I don’t care what it takes. True love, real love, is worth some groveling and embarrassment.” Grams’s expression becomes serious, and she points at both of us to drive home her point. “Real love can bounce back from anything.”
I roll my eyes.
“One day you’re going to find the girl that will make you crazy, that you’ll hate and love so much it’ll make your skin itch,”
“Great, love's like an STD.” I cringe.
Lisa hides her chuckle.
“Listen, if there’s one thing I wish for you, it’s that you find your other half who, no matter how bad things get, can make you smile every day, even if you want to crack their skull in sometimes. That’s the type of love that makes you feel complete,” she says with a reminiscent smile.
I wonder if she’s reflecting on my granddad.
“Shouldn’t you feel that way regardless of another person? You shouldn’t need anyone else to complete you,” Lisa says.
I grin. Now there’s the controversial, opinionated girl I know.
“No, you should never need anyone to make you feel good about who you are. You always have to love yourself, because if you don’t do that, when you meet that other person, it’s going to make their job a shitload harder. But when you have that love that makes your insides feel weak, when you have a person who will go to hell and back for you, it’s like putting a pretty little bow on an already beautifully wrapped gift box,” Grams says.
“So it’s like when a girl is hot, then you find out she’s a gymnast?” I deduce.
“You’re a pig,” Lisa scolds me playfully, and I make a snorting noise. “I didn’t know that you were into love stuff like this, Grams. You’re always so tough and kickass.”
“Us hardasses need love too, and you never got to meet Aidan’s granddaddy. You’d have seen true love right in front of you,” Grams says sadly. “So you going to get this boy, back?”
I snicker, and Lisa cuts her eyes at me.
“What was that for?” she asks indignantly.
“You don’t love Brett,” I say before stealing a piece of bacon off her plate.
“Oh, and you’d know because you’re so in love with Hillary?” she counters.
“Who's Hillary?” Grams asks, and I frown.
“You know,” I say with a tense laugh.
“No, I don’t know,” she reiterates.
Lisa bursts into laughter. “So your grams doesn’t even know about your pretty-much girlfriend?”
I haven’t mentioned her once? “I’ve been kind of seeing her the past year,” I tell Grams, rolling my eyes at Lisa’s smug grin.
“Goddammit, when am I going to get to meet the girl?”
Shit, Hillary meeting Grams? I don’t even want to imagine how that’d go, or the ideas it’d give Hillary about us.
“I’ll think about it,” I grumble. Grams frowns, so I shine the spotlight back on Lisa. “What about you, Lisa? Going to run and fight for your true love?” I can’t even make it through the sentence without bursting into laughter.
“Brett is a really great guy!” she spits back, even though he kicked her and his soon-to-be child out of the house.
The thought makes my fist instinctively ball up.
“The whole thing was my fault,” she adds defensively.
“The guy’s a douche and has been since you dated him in high school.”
“Aidan hates Brett because he’s everything he’s not: charming, sensitive, and a man instead of a little boy,” she says, then sticks her tongue out at me.
“You two are still the same. As much as you fought when you were younger, I swore you’d grow up and marry each other.” Grams laughs as Lisa and I look at her as if she’s grown two heads.
“That’d never happen, Grams. Aidan likes his women dumb and psychotic,” she teases.
“And Leese likes her dudes with vaginas and issues out the ass,” I say.

Filthy Marcello Lucian by Bethany Kris

*5 mafia Nutella jars*

Who ever says that I'm obsessed with mafia books is so very wrong. Obsession doesn't even begin to describe my relationship with the mafioso men heck I'm not gonna even deny the the fact that I'd share my Nutella with them. And that's where our story starts from though denial and negligence are a few things our main hero knows about but that doesn't mean he doesn't get what he deserves.

Lucian Marcello an all alpha Mafioso. Being Capo means coming from privileged and a powerful family, though that might be partially true about Lucian, let's say this Capo was born to a powerful man but to a secret Mother. Having a father who was a caporegime should mean that young Lucian was mafia royalty but when his mother was his father's mistress, Lucian was forced to be brought up in the streets while hiding his identity until a helping hand comes in the form of Anthony Marcello "The Don". Rescued and loved Lucian's life changed drastically from having nothing and living off garbage to having two loving parents and equally rowdy brothers, Lucian Marcello wasn't only a sexy tattooed Capo but with a heart of gold and truth as his only language kind of man but this Marcello prince was already king .

"Being an Italian, Cosa Nostra born family was everything when it came to living life as a Marcello.
Family. Honor. God.
La famiglia. Onore. Dio.
Greed. Money. The business.
It all needed to be handled".

Life is pretty mundane for Lucian. Business is running smoothly until the MC's create havoc, Lucian and his brother's will set the boundaries straight for the "Sons Of Hell" MC but not before this Marcello gets tongue tied when he finally meets his match in the most unlikely of places, inside a confession box

"Crossing the short distance to the confessional, he grabbed the curtain and tugged to open it.

And promptly froze right where he stood. She was beautiful. Not in the usual, pretty face, clear skin, and bright eyes kind of way.

No, the woman behind the confessional curtain was beautiful in a heart stopping, stunning, and make-your-lungs-ache kind of way".

With Lucian completely struck by lighting our Capo still has to find out who she is but with emotions running high, this fever will take over Lucian's heart , soul and mind.

"B-bella, scusi,” Lucian stuttered, apologising for his intrusion and letting the curtain fall closed as his shaking fist returned to his side. “Merda".

Merda exactly, Cue in our beautiful heroine Jordyn Dawn Reese. At 21 jordyn has managed to see some pretty rough situations. After being brought up in the world of MC Sons Of Hell, jordyn isn't safe. The safety she had was snatched away when her then husband who was merely appointed for marriage to give her protection was taken away and now Jordyn is a walking target as MC'S property. Our heroine is waiting for the ball to drop but she won't go down without a fight with blame in her heart for her mother jordyn can't help but think about the handsome stranger who made her body tingle at confession, she's holding on and maybe waiting to feel safe again

"As it was, Jordyn already felt out of place in this house of God. Women like her didn’t make a habit of going to church, let alone being seen near one. It was only something she did occasionally, whenever her mind was filled with crap she couldn’t handle, or stress was eating her alive."

But when Lucian goes about taking care of the MC's with jordyn on his mind let's say our hero wasn't expecting to see her again that soon and of all places at Sons Of Hell. With constant stream of emotions going through both Lucian and jordyn's head there's going to be a war waged and not just between two groups but between two hearts.

There will be a whole lot of blood shed and jordyn's worst nightmare will not see the light of day. After all that's said and done this mafioso will protect and fight for his queen.

My Thoughts In The End

In the end I have to point out that Lucian is by far the most realistic Capo I've had the privilege of knowing and yes I'm talking more better than wait for it... LIAM *gasp!!!*. Yes more then Liam why you ask because though Lucian was Capo with a not so great semi childhood but the one thing that man had was RESPECT!. He didn't stalk our heroine nor did he show signs of the mine syndrome you know the obsessive *you're mine Goddamit* or my personal favourite *Pee in front of me or with the door open well cause you're mine* ⬅⬅⬅ there right there is BULL FECKING SHIT!. Overall a must read if you want a bad boy who has his head on straight and knows how to respect women I mean come on what more do you want :). Liquid gold that's how the narration of this book was , honestly you will not be disappointed once you buy the audio book because the pronunciation of the words is bang on proper Italian accent , seriously what more do you want.  On that note I really need lucian now. One ore thing you know how audible is like the first book is on them if your new to audible well then THIS definitely needs to be your first read cause you will not regret it.

Note: This review was for the Audio book version of filthy Marcello , the copy was provided to me via IndieSagePr for an honest review. End Verdict if you ever what sex in Italian sounds like then the amazing John Thrust brings that fantasy to life.

Synopsis:

Lucian Marcello is aware of the expectations following him as the oldest son of one of North America's most infamous Cosa Nostra Dons. Family in his world is more than blood and sharing a last name. It's the honor, respect, business, and the life. Being a Capo is just a stepping stone until it's time for him to take on the role of underboss but a chance meeting with her could be the one thing he'd risk it all for.   She is exactly what he didn't know he was looking for.   Jordyn Reese spends her time trying to stay under the radar of a man who wouldn't think twice about killing her. Unwillingly affiliated with a dangerous MC gang, her life is dominated by the men surrounding her and her future rests solely in how useful she can be for them. The last thing she needs is some Mafioso gaining her more unwanted attention from the club.   He is everything she should stay away from but can't.   Notoriously violent when it comes to getting what he wants, Lucian will stop at nothing to make the target on Jordyn's back disappear. But sometimes the worst threats are the ones you can't see until it's too late. The truth behind Lucian's history is about to take center stage in more ways than one, and it'll either save him … or kill him.   This world leaves everyone a little filthy.   Filthy Marcellos, Book One   ***   Filthy Marcellos: La Cosa Nostra is not just a choice of regime and routine, it's a culture. Born as mafia royalty, the Marcello brothers were raised ingrained with the beliefs and rules of what it meant to be a Mafioso prince. It is for life. Their status is considered a given right. They will always be these people. They will always be Marcellos.

ABOUT JOHN THRUST (NARRATOR)

I wanted to be an actor as far back as I can remember, but I was never attracted to the lifestyle.   In school whenever the teacher asked someone else to read aloud I remember often thinking, "You're not reading it right, let me do it".   In college my communication degree required that I take oral interpretation classes.  I took first and second level classes and crushed them.   I ended up in radio.  A comprise, of sorts, to acting.  I did the commercials and loved doing goofy character voices; sexy huh?   During that time I did a local theater production and the director said I should go to the big city and get working.   Sometime later I auditioned to train for The Second City's touring group.   I got in and was doing well… but… the lifestyle.   I've been dabbling in voice acting for many years and have been recording audio books along the way and so… here I am.   I'm OK with the lifestyle.   I do hope folks like what they hear and to all those who listen I say, "thank you!"
